Hi All!
I'm very new with Ora. This is first time I create a DB. I install a Ora 8i verson 8.17 on Win2k SP2. My PC using PenIII, 254RAM. All things done well but I did not want to create DB by using Wizard, I want to create by my own. So after installing Ora, I create db in cmd line. The problem here is I could not login as Sysdba. I got an error: "Ora-24314 service handle not initialized". Could anyone help me to solve it. Many thanks!

create an init[[DB]].ora
set ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME
use ORADIM to create a Service
start Server Manager
use startup nomount pfile='Ur Init'
run DB creation's script

What are the commands you are using? After which command you are getting this error?

Did you create parameter file already? startup nomount succeeded?

Shed some light on your steps.

Hope that helps,
